Save or Splurge: Counter Stools

It’s been quite the week here in Chicago! I got two days off from the frigid temps and to be honest it was kind of nice getting to be snowed in and catch up on some things that needed to be done. I hope my fellow midwest friends are staying warm and bundled! Today, I’m excited to finally share one of the newest additions to our apartment: counter stools!

First off, I just learned there was such a thing as counter stools vs. bar stools. Counter stools are meant for shorter islands where as bar stools have more height. (Here’s a measuring guide that I found helpful.) I spotted these bar stools from Serena & Lily, and loved the traditional and classic feel they would give our more modern styled kitchen. However, the price was not in our #lawschoolbudget. After a little more research, I came across these black counter stools that were the perfect height, identical to the Serena & Lily ones, and on sale. I ended up scoring three of them for less than the price of one of the others. Chas was happy. I was happy. Success.

I did a little rearranging after a thorough kitchen clean up and moved our “oily station” to a different corner to open up more space on the island. Fun fact about the island: when we decided on this apartment building in Chicago, I fell in love with this specific layout with an island. It is more expensive than the layouts without it and in trying to convince Chas that since I was going to be the one doing most of the cooking anyways (wink) it’s only right that we get the apartment with the island. He proposed a compromise: I get the island if we leave our car in Dallas. Whaaaaaat? Well, it looks like we got the island and wanna know a secret? As much as I don’t always love public transportation, I’m actually very content that we left our car back home. It just makes more sense for right now. So that’s the story of the island. And I’m glad she now has these black beauties to compliment her loveliness.
