Dorm Sweet Dorm
Comforter: Pottery Barn | Bulletin board Fabric: Hobby Lobby | Gold Frame: Hobby Lobby (love this!) |
Dorm decorating can be daunting and seem a bit overwhelming, but I promise you will be so glad to have a homey oasis to run back to as the fam drives off and you’re overcome with all sorts of emotions (this home body was a blubbering mess!) I was SO thankful to have my family in Lubbock (wreck ‘em!) moving me into my first home away from home. Here are a few of my dorm decorating tips so that you too can have a dorm sweet dorm.
First off, bedding. When it came to selecting my bedding I knew I wanted a white comforter. I love the clean, fresh feel that accompanies white, and I knew I could brighten things up with fun pillows. Pottery Barn had this chic girly comforter that I loved! Pillows are a great way to make a space warm and inviting. We found the larger throw pillows at T.J.Maxx and Ross. I would encourage you to take pictures of what you slowly gather so you can see what works and what doesn’t. The 2 tan and white patterned pillows were in a set from Costco (crazy, right?!) And the rest were Marshall’s and Target. The tan blanket was also Marshall’s. (and yes I did make my bed every single day…#OCD)
Next, lighting is the key to making any room cozy. I had two lamps; the one shown in the picture and one for my desk. I loved turning off the main lights and leaving the lamps on to create a homey effect.
Last but not least, decorations! The dorm rooms at Tech have a large bulletin board that we decided to cover with a cute teal chevron fabric and decorate with some personalized pieces. My roommate had this same fabric (which looks exactly like my yellow chevron pillow!) and it tied the room together perfectly! My sweet mama found a roll of burlap that we bunched up & stapled around the border to complete the look. *Tip: download the Hobby Lobby app before you check out because they always have a coupon that will help lessen your overall price!*
The gold frame was another Hobby Lobby find and I printed some of my favorite pictures from high school and taped them to a foam board that I cut to fit inside the frame and then command stripped that sucker up to the wall (we weren’t allowed to use nails so we loaded up on command strips!)
The “M” was another fun DIY project and all the materials can be found at Michaels, or your local craft store. You will need your initial, moss, burlap, white foam board, a cute frame, and spray paint of your choice! First, spray paint the frame. Next, cut a piece of foam board (I recommend using a straight edge blade) to fit the open space of the frame and hot glue the burlap. Then, start hot-gluing the moss to the wooden initial. Finally, hot glue the frame to the burlap foam board and then hot-glue the initial to the burlap and viola! your personalized project is complete!
I would love to see how you decorate your little space so if you Instagram use the hashtag #mmrdormdecor Happy dorm decorating!

This is going to be a wonderful blog! When I was at UT years ago, I lived in a nice dorm and our room was the most decorated on the third floor. My roommate from Dallas brought matching bedspreads and a pot of ivy. We liked to leave the door open so everyone could see~Congratulations!
